Complex Systems And Consciousness

A short note on why simple explanations often fail interesting systems.

Some things do not become clearer just because we break them into smaller pieces.

That is one of the reasons I keep coming back to complexity: life, consciousness, software, families, organisations, weather, and music all have a way of becoming more than the sum of their parts.

I like explanations that are useful, but I distrust explanations that are too pleased with themselves. The interesting work is often in the relationships between things.
